Music feeds the characters in Black Dust. It informs who they are, where they’re from, and paves the path to where they are going. Emmett hopped onto the stage, told Toby his selection—”Try Me”—and without any further direction, launched into the complicated, lyric-heavy, comedic song that landed him the role of Arpad… Toby was so taken by the boy—young, confident, handsome and innocent, with a talent that defied his age—that he felt the need to indeed… try him, as the song suggested. Or at least try getting a slice of pizza after rehearsal.
